Wright is a 2x Emmy Award-winning musician and educator. Toki co-curated the 2x CLIO Award-winning and Cannes Lion-nominated Watch The Stove mixtape for Hamburger Helper/General Mills (named the biggest viral marketing campaign of the year). Wright charted top 50 on MTV, iTunes, and more. Toki has performed at events like Coachella, Rock The Bells, and many more. Wright has released recordings with Talib Kweli, BJ The Chicago Kid, G Yamazawa, and more. He has performed and toured with the likes of Grammy Winning jazz legend Terri Lyne-Carrington, Evidence of Dilated Peoples, the late Sean Price, and J-Live.

Wright is Chair of the Professional Music Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He was formerly the Department Head of the United States' first fully accredited Hip-Hop Studies program at McNally Smith College of Music (awarded the “Best Transformative Higher Learning Model” from the Hip-Hop Education Center at NYU).

As an arts ambassador and MC, Toki regularly tours the world performing and teaching in Africa, Europe, and China. He has also delivered a celebrated TED Talk on “Hip-Hop and Track II Diplomacy.”

As an organizer, Toki led the youth non-profit organization YO! The Movement, facilitating 7 Twin Cities Celebration of Hip-Hop Festivals in addition to other community actions. Wright helped to establish “Hip-Hop at H.E.A.L.S” a program for former child soldiers in Gulu, Northern Uganda, as well as helped to establish the careers of Hip-Hop artists in Croatia and Sierra Leone. Under the producer moniker Mamadu, Wright has also been behind the scenes producing for various artists.

Toki wears several hats in media including DJ and event promoter. He created Soul Tools Radio on KFAI FM Radio in Minneapolis in 2013. He also created the radio program “Wright About Now” on The Current via American Public Media Group, writes for several publications, and has been a judge for NPR’s “Tiny Desk Contest.”
